Profile
Purnaprajna Bangere comes from a school of violin playing in India that is known for producing high powered violinists who are great virtuosos and great musicians as well. Purna’s teacher H. K. Narasimhamurthy (HKN), a top ranked violinist by All India Radio, is also a teacher of great repute who has produced several first rate violinists.
Purna is the first disciple, in a long line of disciples, of his teacher. HKN’s teacher is the legendary violinist M. S. Gopalakrishnan (MSG), who has been hailed as one of India’s greatest musicians. The style of playing that Purna closely adheres to was discovered by the musical genius Parur Sundaram Iyer, MSG’s father, and is famously known as the Parur style in Indian musical circles. This style incorporates some of the best aspects of Indian music harmoniously blending both the north and south Indian styles of music. Purna is considered a violin virtuoso with a command of instrument that is stunning for speed, clarity and a variety of violin techniques. Purna has given concerts in India, Europe and US to much acclaim.
