Jayateerth Mevundi hails from Hubli in North Karnataka, the land of great vocalists and maestros of Hindustani Classical Music like Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hangal, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Pt. Basavraj Rajguru and Pt. Kumar Gandharva and so on. Born in the year 1972, Jayateerth, according to many connoisseurs and critics of Hindustani Classical Music, is considered to be a torchbearer of Kirana Gharana.
Jayateerth received his initial training in music under the tutelage of Sangeet Ratna Pt. Arjunsa Nakod of Gwalior Gharana for about 10 years. Since the year 1994 onwards he has been receiving musical lessons under the able guidance of Pt. Shripati Padegar, who is a disciple of the most legendary master of Hindustani music of our times, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi of Kirana Gharana.
Jayateerth has won numerous awards, latest of which was the Young Maestro award which was personally handed to him by President Abdul Kalam at the second year inauguration of the Indian Music Academy organized by Pt. Jasraj on 9th April 2007 in Delhi.
Sangeetha is happy to honor and recognize the contribution and support for Indian Classical Music in St Louis, of Shri Sharad Sathe , an eminent Hindustani Classical Music Guru in St Louis, who also is a Guru for Tabla ( Hindustani Percussion) in St.Louis. He was the founding President of Sangeetha and has been actively supporting Sangeetha from its conception to now – 25 years +. Sharadji recently released a music album in India, Music composed and arranged by him and songs rendered by well known Hindustani Classical Music vocalist and Bollywood play back singer Sadhana Sargam. Sangeetha is happy to be one of the platforms for recognizing Sharadji and also releasing his own compositions music album here.
